It is designed to quickly and easily fold: newsletters, flyers, invoices, statements, letters, bulletins and other documents. This Martin Yale 1601 paper folding machine is designed for budget conscious consumers that are looking for a folding machine that can handle their needs at a price they can afford.

Folding Trays

Strengths:
The Martin Yale 1601 paper folder is designed to fold both letter and legal sized paper into a number of different folding patterns. It is specifically designed to create five different folds including the: letter fold, half-fold, double parallel fold, and a right angle fold which is also known as a cross fold. Although it is specifically designed for use with letter and legal sized sheets it can also accept custom sizes as small as 3.5" x 5" and as large as 8.5" x 14". It can also perform custom folding patterns to meet your specific needs. The 1601 has a feed tray that accepts up to 150 sheets of paper at a time. The convenient tray design means that no fanning of the paper is required which is a definite plus. Many paper folding machines in this price range require you to fan out the paper in order for it to feed properly. This can be tricky and if you do not do it correctly the folder may not feed the sheets correctly. The 1601 does not have this issue. The Martin Yale 1601 is fast. It can fold up to a maximum of 9,000 sheets per hour. This means that most jobs of a few hundred letters can be completed in a minute or two at maximum speeds. The 1601 Autofolder also has a manual feed bypass that allows you to feed stapled sets of up to 4 pages into the machine by hand. This is convenient for folding multi paged statements and newsletters.

Folding Trays

Weaknesses / Limitations:
The Martin Yale 1601 Autofolder is a manual setup paper folding machine. This simply means that in order to change folding patterns or paper sizes you need to manually adjust the position and settings on the fold plates. It can be a little bit tricky to make sure that your fold plates are set complete square and that the paper stops are in the correct position. Users who need to frequently change folding patterns or who have operators that are not mechanically inclined may want to consider an automatic setup paper folder such as the Martin Yale 1701. The 1601 Autofolder is designed to handle uncoated paper stocks that are between 16lb and 28lb bond. It is not compatible with heavy card stocks, glossy papers and coated sheets. Glossy or heavy stocks may cause misfeed and paper jams if you attempt to use them with this folding machine. The Martin Yale 1601 is great for use with letter size (8.5" x 11") sheets and legal size (8.5" x 14") sheets. However, it is not compatible with larger sheet sizes including 11" x 17". If your organization needs to fold larger sheets than 8.75" x 14" you will need to consider a larger paper folding machine.

Recommendation:
The Martin Yale 1601 Autofolder is a great machine for small and medium sized organizations or mail rooms who primarily use one type of folding pattern. This machine is designed for moderate usage in a business environment and should hold up very well over time. However, this machine is not designed for use for high volume industrial applications. It should not be used for folding heavy stocks or coated papers and cannot accept large sheets sizes. This does not make it a good candidate for use by commercial printers, binderies or large mail processing organizations.

The P6400 is an inexpensive personal folding machine that is an ideal addition to most small or home offices.

Strengths / Features:
With a selling price of around 0 the Martin Yale P6400 offers an excellent value for your money. It is one of the least expensive personal folding machines on the market. Like the P6200, the Martin Yale P6400 paper folder is extremely compact and can easily sit on your desk or beside your desktop laser or inkjet printer. This allows you to quickly and easily fold documents as your produce them without ever having to leave your desk. The P6400 is incredibly simple to use. Unlike many paper folders that require extensive setup for folding, the P6400 has only two settings. One setting is for folding letters for placement into standard sized envelopes. The other setting is for folding letter sized documents in half. This machine can even fold multiple sheets of paper at a time. You can feed up to three sheets of paper into a letter fold or up to five sheets of paper with a half fold.

Folding Trays

Weaknesses / Limitations:
The P6400 is a hand fed folding machine and thus is not equipped with a feed tray. The P6400 is designed for folding one document at a time as the paper is produced. Users who need to fold larger numbers of sheets or who want automatic feeding capabilities will need to choose a larger folding machine. The P6400 is designed for folding 20lb and 24lb letter sized paper using either a letter fold or a half fold. This is an improvement over the P6200 which can only perform one folding pattern. However, larger more feature rich folding machines can handle other sizes and thicknesses of paper and can fold sheets into numerous other patterns. If you think you might need to fold thicker paper stocks, larger sheet sizes or produce other folding patterns then you might want to consider one of Martin Yale's larger Autofolding machines. The P6400 is designed for light volume folding applications and for the folding of documents one at a time as they are created. If you attempt to fold large volumes of paper using the P6400 you will most certainly be disappointed. It is simply not designed for volume applications and will not hold up over time if you attempt to fold large numbers of sheets per day.

Recommendation:
The Martin Yale P6400 is an excellent choice for workers who are looking for a paper folding machine to use at their desk along with their laser or inkjet printer. It's also a great choice for the home office worker. It's small form factor and simple operation make it an ideal choice for light volume folding of letters and documents as they are produced. It is perfect for organizations that need to fold a few documents per day and don't need to fold thicker papers or any paper size other than 8.5" x 11". However, organizations that need to fold larger volumes, other paper sizes or thicker stocks should consider a larger Martin Yale paper folding machine.

Its folding can be customized beyond the four easy to use presets, for many more custom folds. Remember, the maximum paper size for this machine is 8-1/2" x 14" (legal) size paper. Therefore, it does not fold 11" x 17" paper.

Folding glossy paper, carbonless forms, card stock or envelopes is not recommended. The recommended paper stock for this machine is 20# to 60# bonds/offset. Single page folding is the principal job of this machine. In another words, if you put a stack of paper in the tray, it will fold pages individually one by one. It is not design to do multiple pages at one time.

One last point to keep in mind, The Techko lf286 letter paper folder folding machine is the upgraded model of other Techko machines, specifically the LF283.
